Balsamic Steak Stir-Fry

Tender beef stir-fried with onions in a sweet, tangy balsamic-soy sauce, served over rice.

Ingredients
  • 1
beef tenderloin fillet (8 oz), cut into cubes or medallions
  • Salt and black pepper
  • 2 tbsp
    olive oil
  • 1 cup
    sliced onions
  • 8 oz
    broccolini, trimmed and halved, optional
  • Sauce
  • 1/3 cup
    low-sodium beef broth
  • 1/4 cup
    balsamic vinegar
  • 3 tbsp
    low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp
    honey
  • 2 tsp
    cornstarch
  • 2 tsp
    toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tsp
    fresh grated ginger
  • 1 tsp
    fresh grated garlic
  • 1 tsp
    Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tsp
    red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 tsp
    minced orange zest

Directions

  • Whisk all the sauce ingredients together and set aside.

  • If using broccolini, blanch in boiling salted water for 3 minutes. Drain and dry very well.

  • Season the beef with salt and pepper.

  • Heat olive oil in a sauté pan over high heat. Sear the beef for about 2 minutes per side, or until browned. Transfer to a plate and cover loosely with foil.

  • Add the onions to the same pan and stir-fry for about 2 minutes.

  • Add the sauce mixture and bring to a boil. Cook until thickened.

  • Add the broccolini, if using, and cook for 1 minute.

  • Return the beef to the pan and coat well with the sauce.

  • Serve hot over rice.
